While learning to play the trumpet during his grade school years Tom became distracted by his older brothers Rock and Blues album collection and a beat Supro electric guitar. The distraction lead to a revolving door of bands during his teens and twenties. In his early 30’s, when a friend loanedTom a Tab Benoit CD, Tom was drawn right into the swamp with an interest in Louisiana style Blues, Cajun music and Louisiana culture.
Tom founded The Swamp Kings in 2006. In 2007 The Swamp Kings formedits deep grooves when Connor McRea Hammergren took control of the drum throne. A tight mix of Blues, Funk and Cajun grooves landed the bandin the recording studio in 2008 with producer Paul Manske. With guest musicians Harry Pulver Jr. on accordion (Tubby Esquire, The Woodpeckers) and Toby Lee Marshall on the Hammond B3 Organ (Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Joe Julianno Band), Swamp Appeal quickly gained national and international airplay by 2009. The Swamp Kings are a main-stay on the upper Midwest Blues scene with their Louisiana style sound.
Tom proudly plays Fender Thinline guitars and Fender, Supro and Schwalbe amplifiers.
